I guess I have to ask (a) whether CUB are aware of your research and (b) whether you have identified any basis for their claims regarding Ambassadors and diplomats. I should also ask whether your book (The Brewery) is still available? I missed out on getting a copy when it was released.

Thanks Andrew. Crown Lager was definitely devised before 1913 under the style "Finest Export Crown Lager". Bass in England Produced a commemorative Kings Ale in 1902, and it is highly probable Crown Lager was introduced for the coronation of George V in June 1911. A beer called Foster's Topaz Pilsner which sported a crown trademark, was brewed by CUB Pty Ltd at the Victoria Brewery after the closure of the Foster Brewery, and it appears that the two beers were rationalised into Fosters Export Crown Lager around WWI.

I’m still researching the Crown brand. Just took a look at their website ( which l confess don't do that often). l wonder too if they confused the Findlay's bottle they display as a Fosters beer bottle. I suppose they look quite similar. Or , is that to show the Foster brothers pinched the trademark from the Findlay and Son's defunct Southern Brewery - registered some 10 years before the Fosters boy's arrived in Australia. Just asking!
Great stuff - there's certainly more to beer than just drinking!

Wow… Interesting to learn about the heritage of their premium brand. This is becoming a true saga, a conspiracy the likes of which the brewing industry has never seen! I considered dressing up in a trench-coat, arranging a secret meeting in a suitably eerily lit lane-way where I would say in a raspy voice, "they're on to you". However I decided that although it would add an exciting new chapter to this story, it was a lot of effort and just the flights up north would make it rather expensive!
Keep up the good work though!

“but I can’t get enough of these Crownies that you sent” — ahahahaha!

This is becoming a true saga, a conspiracy the likes of which the brewing industry has never seen!
