Where Top Chefs and Brewers Unite for Good Beer Week

mega degaExperts say that you should never drink on an empty stomach, and no one knows that better than the Good Beer Week team, today revealing the festival’s champion foodie event, the Mega Dega II.

The six-course feast at Brunswick’s Pope Joan is the headline event in Good Beer Week’s ‘Foodie’ Stream, which boasts superb collaborations between some of Australia’s top chefs and key local and international brewing talent. Good Beer Week.

Matt Wilkinson of Pope Joan headlines a team of all-star chefs, paired with celebrated national and international brewers who will expertly match a brew to each delicious course.

“I’ve assembled a serious dream team for the Mega Dega II at Pope Joan,” says Wilkinson.

“It’s going to be a pretty incredible meal, I can promise you that.”

“Matt’s always been a great supporter of the festival, so we were delighted when he agreed to form a killer team of chefs for Mega Dega II,” says Good Beer Week Festival Director, James Smith.

“After the event’s spectacular debut in 2013, we can’t wait to see what the chefs comes up with in partnership with our hand-picked Aussie and international brewers.”

Weihenstephan, the world’s oldest brewery, will present its special one-off brew for Good Beer Week at Mega Dega.

Aptly named “Kruez des Sudens” (German for “Southern Cross”), the brew is rumoured to be an interesting mixture of the typical Weihenstephaner wheat beer and the exotic flavours derived from Australian hops.

“We are very pleased to serve this only to and especially for the Australian Market as Australia is one of our most important partners in bringing our Weihenstephaner beer to people all over the world!” says Frank Peifer from Weihenstephan.

Good Beer Week will take place from 17 – 25 May 2014. Described by international brewers as “the best beer week in the world”, the nine-day festival has grown almost 400 per cent since launching in May 2011.
