Media Release – 7 November 2014

Despite the best efforts of many craft beer aficionados, BentSpoke Brewing Co. will tomorrow fill the last of its enormous 18-tap bar with a brew that celebrates not only the brewery’s five-month anniversary, but also the start of Canberra Beer Week.

“There’s no doubt the good folk of Canberra have been keeping me busy!” said Richard Watkins, twice crowned Best Australian Small Brewer and BentSpoke’s owner and head brewer.

“We’ve been brewingaround the clock to keep up with demand and it’s probably taken us a little longer than anticipated to fill all18 of our taps.”

BentSpoke made headlines around the country in it’s opening week after nearly being drunk dry by people keen to try Watkin’s renowned brews.

The microbrewery produces all of its own tap beers andciders on premises in Braddon and features one of the longest bar fonts in the country with 16 taps and anadditional two hand-pumped taps. Five beers and a cider were available when the brewery opened inJune this year, and since then the range has been expanded to include pale ales, a German style lagerduring Oktoberfest, Imperial IPAs, smoked rye ales, a gluten-free ginger beer, and a dark ale which wasinfused with truffle during Canberra’s truffle season.

“Our 18th beer, called the Frenzy is a raspberry infused wheat beer” said Watkins, “the perfect accompaniment for a nice Canberra summer’s day.”

Which should make it popular when it’s launched attomorrow’s Beer Day Out festival at the Old Bus Depot, the opening event of Canberra Beer Week.

It will also be launched in the brewery on Sunday as part of the BentSpoke Brewer’s Brunch which willsee many of Australia’s best craft brewers hosted by In Canberra Tonight’s Chris Endrey. Tickets ($28) forthe brunch are still available from BentSpoke on 02) 6257 5220 and include a two-course brunch and twopints of beer, one of which will be the Frenzy.”

We’ll launch another beer on Sunday as well, but we’re keeping that one a secret for now!” said Watkins.

Other beer week events at BentSpoke include free brewery tours and the chance to win your own private brewing session with Watkins at BentSpoke.
