New Zealand Craft Beer Symposium 2015

sɪmˈpəʊzɪəm/
noun
noun: symposium; plural noun: symposia; plural noun: symposiums
a drinking party or convivial discussion, especially as held in ancient Greece after a banquet (and notable as the title of a work by Plato).
Beer days and week weeks are an increasingly common event across the country. It was with some interest then that we were approached about a New Zealand craft beer symposium that, despite its name, sounded very much like a beer day.

Organiser Paul Stieglbauer says this is because the event is much more than just drinking good beer in the pub.

“Here is an opportunity for people who are passionate about beer to get together and talk about something they love. In the future we hope to have more interaction not only from the brewers but with the people who drink the beer,” he said

“[We plan to have] workshops, brew collaborations etc. The opportunities are endless and we hope to grow the event to include all of Australia so beer lovers everywhere can enjoy a good kiwi brew.”

The Symposium is being held held on Friday February 6th, or Waitangi Day, New Zealand’s national day and is being held at participating venues around the country – not surprisingly including some of the best venues in the county.

Apart from great beer, the event also includes the chance to win a return trip for two to Wellington and Beervana. There isn’t a website as yet, but more details are below. Contact your local host venue for more information on their plans.

Zealand Craft Beer Symposium

Friday 6th February 2015

Following on from the success of the inaugural Welli Craft Beer Symposium on Waitangi Day in 2014 we have decided to invite other passionate beer friends to celebrate with us in the 2015 edition and take the event interstate.

Venues

Waitangi Day – is New Zealand’s national day and perhaps not as widely celebrated as other nations big day but nonetheless an important part of the kiwi make up. What better day to celebrate the emergence of kiwi craft beer as a true international force. A host of kiwi beers will be showcased with the aim of bringing out a unique brew or two. These include Tuatara, Parrot Dog, Yeastie Boys, 8 Wired, Renaissance, Garage Project, Epic, Panhead and Liberty. Phoenix and Better Beer distribution have agreed to hold rare stock in anticipation of the event not being too far away. Each venue has the opportunity to individually order with the distributors to find the beers that work best for them.

The famous Raffle.
