The Tasmanian Government has launched a new website aimed at capitalising on the state’s emerging beer tourism niche.

Beer tourism attracted more than 125,000 travellers to the state in the year to March, according to the latest Tasmanian Visitor Survey.

The Tasmanian Beer Trail website provides information on local breweries, tours, tastings, festivals and other events.

It might need to be expanded very soon, with two new breweries set to open in Tasmania in the coming months.

The beer trail forms part of the Tasmanian Beer Tourism Plan, which was funded by a $250,000 investment from the Government and $100,000 from the Brewers Association.

It aims to further build the profile of Tasmania’s established breweries like Cascade and Boags, while shining a spotlight on its many smaller brewers, Premier Will Hodgman said in a statement.

“The Tasmanian Beer Trail complements the existing whisky and cider trails that have underpinned their rapidly growing appeal as tourist destinations, offering estate tours, history and heritage presentations and of course tastings and food,” the Premier said.

Brewers Association CEO Denita Wawn congratulated the Tasmanian Government on the initiative.

“The Brewers Association is looking forward to working with everyone in the Tasmanian beer industry to showcase beer and brewing and to highlight the Tasmanian beer tourism experience through the beer trail,” she said.
