Time Out honours top Sydney pubs

The winners of the 2nd annual Time Out Sydney Pub Awards have been announced. The awards, which recognise the city’s top watering holes both old and new, were held last night at The Glenmore rooftop in The Rocks.

Sydney’s top publicans, bartenders and industry folk were in attendance, rubbing shoulders with more than 300 partygoers over Little Creatures beers, Willie Smiths cider, cocktails from Canadian Club, live music from local Sydney act The Beans and great pub snacks including beer battered fish and chips, lamb cutlets and fennel sausage rolls. There was a meat tray; a raffle and even a badge draw to add to the classic pub vibes. The Time Out Sydney Pub Guide 2015, the city’s ultimate pub bible, was also launched at the event and will be available from leading retailers for $4.95 from Thursday 18 June.

There were nine awards up for grabs including a new Family Friendly Award, Pub of the Year, Publican of the Year and Best Pub Revival. Time Out’s team of experts judged eight of the awards, while the People’s Choice Award, as ever, was chosen by Time Out readers. This year’s winners not only walked away with the glory and an honorary place in this year’s Time Out Sydney Pub Guide, but were also given vouchers for hospitality apparel label, Cargo Crew.

Time Out Sydney pubs editor, Emily Lloyd-Tait, explains: “The Awards are our opportunity to highlight the people raising the bar for counter meals and promoting inclusivity. The ones bringing old boozers back to life with respect for their history and those keeping us entertained on long winter nights with live music, games, classes, events, trivia and even the odd art exhibition or mini opera. And a pub with no beer is no pub at all, so we are very fond of the venues that take their taps seriously, giving space to up and coming brewers and pouring fresh, clean schooners of old favourites.”
