The winners of a design competition are seeking a backer to bring to life their idea for a gravity fed microbrewery in Adelaide.

The Central Market Tower Ideas Competition called for entries that would assist in reimagining a new chapter for Adelaide’s market tower, which has stood largely unused for 115 years.

Designed by architects Reuben French-Kennedy, Adrian Reveruzzi and Duana Fisher, the winning concept was Market Brew, which proposes a gravity fed microbrewery with a rooftop hop garden and small bar within the existing tower.

French-Kennedy told Australian Brews News that while there is no guarantee it will go ahead, Adelaide Central Markets is right behind the idea.

“The next step is to find an external partner (brewer/business) who is excited by the idea and willing to invest,” he said.

“It could be an excellent branding opportunity for a brewer to have a product which is also associated with the Central Markets and a very unique brewery and bar/outlet.

“At the moment we are trying to give the idea as much exposure as possible in the hope that a potential business might take interest and turn the project into a reality, which would be amazing,” French-Kennedy said.
