Radio Brews News – Episode 100 – Hope Brewhouse and Hobart Brewing

August 2, 2016

This week we catch up with Matt Hogan from Hope Brewhouse in the Hunter Valley.

Matt surprised the entire brewing community, and himself, when his brewery was named Champion Small Brewery at the recent Australian Craft Beer Awards.

Then Pete catches up with Brendan Parnell and Scott Overdorf from Hobart Brewing Company. Hobart Brewing Company opened earlier this year and is adding to the Tasmania capital’s vibrat beer culture.

During the pre-ramble we mention Dr Brett Stubbs’ new book Bygone Breweries of New South Wales: The Hunter River District published by Tankard books and available here.

    Great, informative show as always. I know you are not aimed at home brewing but given that many craft brewers started by home brewing, and many followers are home brewing, it might be interesting to look at the home brewing industry. The real good bloke and innovator John Preston (Grain and Grape) would be an excellent person to interview. Also the ANHC in Adelaide in October might be of interest.
    Just a couple of ideas, feel free to ignore.

    If you don’t object too much I must disagree with your introduction to this episode;
    “Matt surprised the entire brewing community.”

    Those of us who have been enjoying Matt’s beers since Hope Brewhouse kicked off have known that it was only a matter of time before his trophy cabinet started to fill. From his very first brew his ability to put together a recipe and attention to process have been evident. I’ve taken much pleasure in sending customers his way.

    Along with Lovedale Brewery, around the corner from Hope, visitors to Wine Country in the Hunter have many great beers to choose from. Those of us who are local are lucky we don’t have to choose, we can enjoy them all ;-)
