Sunshine Brewery gets underway

Sunshine Brewery, Maroochydore

Small Brewery Update: The proliferation of small breweries on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast continues, with the opening of Sunshine Brewery in Maroochydore.

Sunshine Brewery has been founded by locals Craig Dunsdon and Daryle Cook, the latter of whom operated a logistics and transport business in the region for 35 years.

“The business side is my forte, but I also really like beer. I sold my business about two and a half years ago, and was looking for something else to get into,” she told Australian Brews News.

Dunsdon and Cook are keen home brewers who have started their professional operation with a six hectolitre brewhouse and an array of fermenters.

“Some of our equipment’s new but a lot of it is second hand. We’re a very manual system, it’s very hands-on, but it’s one stepping stone. Down the track, we can grow,” said Cook.

Cook acknowledged that the Sunshine Coast has rapidly become a hub for small breweries, with several morestill to come. She sees this as a positive for her business rather than it posing any competitive threat.

“In craft beer everyone refers people [to the other breweries]. It’s nice, it’s promoting the whole industry,” she said.

Sunshine Brewery has a taproom at its Maroochydore headquarters and will also be wholesaling its beers throughout the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.

Its takeaway options are currently limited to growlers and mini kegs, with canning to begin in six months’ time.

Sunshine Brewery is located at 28 Fishermans Road, Maroochydore.
