Goose Island launched in Australia

Melbourne, Australia, April 20, 2017 — The latest international addition to Australia’s craft beer scene hits our shores this week, with Goose Island, one of the world’s most awarded craft breweries, officially landing on tap on Friday 21st April.

Brewmaster Jared Jankoski (L), President & General Manager Ken Stout (R)

Goose Island Beer Company is a pioneer of the craft brewing movement in the US. Australian craft beer lovers will get their first taste of Goose in the form of the Midway IPA: a sessionable 4.1% IPA and the newest beer from the Goose family.

When Goose set out to brew its session IPA, its aim was to make a beer with hop character that could be embraced by all, not just ‘hop heads’. Goose found its inspiration at the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 that put its humble hometown on the map.

At the heart of the Expo was the ‘Midway Plaisance’, a mile-long park with games and amusements for everyone. The Midway Session IPA perfectly captures this spirit and has all the citrusy hop hits of an IPA in an approachable hoppy ale, and the Goose Chicago brewers have flown over from the US to brew Midway fresh for Australia.

More Goose to come

The Midway Session IPA is only the first launch, with the local Aussie brewers working in close partnership with Chicago Goose Island brewers to bring the internationally renowned Goose IPA to Aussies. The six-time Great American Beer Festival medal winning beer will be arriving in the coming months.

Ken Stout, President & General Manager, said, “We’re very proud and excited to introduce Goose Island to the great beer lovers of Australia. It’s also very flattering that interest in American craft beer is spreading around the world, and thrilling for Goose Island to be a part of the movement. Everyone at the Goose Island Beer Company is looking forward to making some new friends Down Under.”

Jared Jankoski, Brewmaster, said, “Goose Island Midway IPA is a lighter bodied dry hopped beer that we would call a “session IPA” in the US. It has a pleasant balancing malt character, low to moderate bitterness and a unique, bright tropical hop aroma derived primarily from Mosaic hops. The result is very refreshing and enjoyable beer with a great hop aroma.

“Brewing locally gives a great freshness advantage, and with our ability to be directly and constantly involved with the brewing process we see this as the most ideal way to bring our beer to Australia. We have been involved every step of the way, giving direction on the brewing process and visiting the brewery to personally taste the beer for every trial.”
