John Harvey

John Harvey is a self-confesssed ‘old b…’ who, at 89, has lived a lifetime of beer. A graduate of the SA School of Mines & Industries (now University of SA), he joined The South Australian Brewing Co Ltd in early 1946 as an assistant brewer and analyst and was head brewer on retirement from the company in 1985. He then embarked upon a consulting career (which involved contact with some of our early craft brewers), plus filling the role of secretary of the Asia Pacific Section of the Institute of Brewing & Distilling (1985 -95) where he remained the editor until 1998. For the past 15 years he has acted as Australian ‘stringer’ for the European brewing journal Brauwelt International. He was awarded an OAM for ‘services to the brewing industry and the community, through Rotary International’ in 2007. John lives in Adelaide and still enjoys a beer and is always happy to reminisce about the industry. Australian Brews News is privileged to have John's contributions.
