Short course in Brewing Science

Edith Cowan University’s Hugh Dunn

Edith Cowan University is conducting a Short course in Brewing Science.

Internationally recognised and accredited brewing experts will be hosting a one week short course at Edith Cowan University’s new Malting and Brewing Education Centre in Joondalup from Monday 27th September to Friday 1st October – 8am to 5pm daily.

The course will meet the needs of students wishing to prepare for the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD) General Certificate in Brewing and those that simply want to learn more about the brewing process.

Lecturers are IBD accredited trainers and include internationally recognised brewing educator, Tim O’Rourke and ECU’s lecturer in brewing science, Hugh Dunn.

Activities will include class lectures and site visits to some of Perth’s notable Micro Breweries.

Topics covered will include:

  • Raw materials
  • Brewhouse operations and wort production
  • Yeast management and fermentation practice
  • Finishing operations and beer quality

All course materials are provided, along with morning and afternoon tea, lunches and refreshments. A course dinner for all participants is also included.

Upon completion of the course students will receive a Course Certificate.

For those students wishing to complete the IBD General Certificate Examination the opportunity to sit mock exams and receive feedback will be available.

The total cost of the course is $1500.
