Careful, Brewer’s Bite

Brewer's Bite Paddle The worlds of slow food and craft beer have grown steadily over the last few years and it was only a matter of time before the two would meet to join forces.

Beer and food matching has been something of a growth area for the craft beer scene but it has been a fairly in-house concept and not widely understood by the general public. But that looks set to change as Matilda Bay Brewing Company launches the first of their Brewer’s Bites events at Prahran Market in Melbourne this weekend before an encore performance at Eveleigh Market in Sydney later this month.

Brewer's Bite Logo_4 Col The concept is simple. Matilda Bay will join with market producers to provide sample paddles of three canapé style offerings that are flavour matched with three different beers. Those who partake will have the opportunity to speak to the brewer about the beer and the food and the more culinary inclined might like to replicate the dish on a larger scale at home with fresh seasonal produce available from the Market.

This will be an opportunity for the public to learn first-hand about beer and food matching and for the brewer to interact as the beers and bites are experienced, sharing the concept of the three “C’s” of beer and food matching – complement, contrast and cleanse. It is hoped that events like this will further the reach of craft beer as it seeks to carve a stronghold into an area that wine has perhaps had to itself for too long now.

Brewer’s bite kicks off at Prahran Market this weekend from 10am till 4pm and continues at Eveleigh Market, Darlington on Saturday October 30th from 9am till 1pm.
