Beer number 11 in the Critics’ Choice has been announced, and it is Mountain Goat Hightail Ale.
Critics’ Choice Editor-at-large and Australian Brews News contributor, Peter Mitcham, said it’s the beer’s “rich amber, generous hop character and refreshing drinkability that make it an easy inclusion in anybody’s ‘Top List’.
Unlike yesterday’s Coopers Best Extra Stout, this entry closely mirrors the recent Taphouse Hottest 100 where Hightail Ale came in 13th. However, proving that such lists make great discussion topics, it does depart from the RateBeer.com 50 Best Australian beers which doesn’t feature the Mountain Goat flagship at all.

Fantastic to see the Mountain Goat Hightail Ale in the top 12! As one of my local “go to” beers, when seeking a flavoursome session beer, Hightail never lets me down…and is only trumped by the extra awesome Rare Breed Double Hightail Ale version!
Cheers.
I think that White Rabbit Dark Ale is one of Australia’s best beer right now. Very nice color and taste. A perfect after-work beer!
I still think Kooinda Pale Ale is the most impressively well balanced and flavoursome Australian brew around at the moment, discounting seasonals and specials.
Yeah, Hightail Ale if good, but my favorite is the Mountain Goat Organic Steam Ale, great on a hot day.
