Beer Wars documentary screenings in September

Coincidentally on the day we run our first in a series of podcasts looking at the issue of tap contracts, Ben Kraus from Bridge Road Brewers contacted us about screenings he is arranging of Beer Wars, a US documentary looking at the battle small brewers face to get their beers into outlets in the States.

beer-warsBen has arranged with those bastions of free taps, The Local Taphouses, to host screenings of the movie followed by a Q&A session featuring a panel of brewers who will discuss interesting issues in the Australian craft beer industry. Members of the audience will have opportunities to ask questions of the panel. There’s not much time before the events, but we are also hoping to develop a short video looking at the situation in Australia to show on the night as well.

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to today’s episode of Radio Brews News, in our discussion about tap contracts Chuck Hahn holds up the Taphouses as examples that pubs can successfully – and profitably – operate even without the lucrative handouts offered to (but not forced on) pubs by the larger brewers.

Congratulations to The Taphouse crew and Ben Kraus for arranging these events. Plans are already a foot to stage a screening in Brisbane and possibly elsewhere.

Lock in these dates:

Taphouse St Kilda – Tuesday Sept 6. Panel members include brewers from Bridge Road, Mountain Goat, Hargreaves Hill and Red Hill
Tickets are only $5 and you just need to pay on the door. Film starts at 7.30pm sharp with doors open from 7pm.

Taphouse Darlo – Tuesday Sept 20. Panel members so far include brewers from Murrays and 4 Pines
