One thousand litres of an elegant 8 per cent Belgian Tripel will be brewed by Australia’s Women of Beer on Saturday 23rd July at the True South Brewery in Melbourne. This is the first time that an all-female collaboration beer has been brewed in the Southern Hemisphere and the start of what the ladies hope will become, at the very least, an annual event.
The brew will bring together the talents of True South’s Sam Füss, Red Hill’s Karen Golding, Two Birds’ Jayne Lewis, Matilda Bay’s Aine O’Hora, Hargreaves Hill’s Beth Williams and the Beer Diva, Kirrily Waldhorn and if the Women of Beer show, which took place earlier this year in Melbourne is anything to go by, the day will be full of fun and laughter (and funky wellington boots!).
The Women of Beer would love anyone (including men!) to join them on the day, with doors to the brewery opening at 11am. Everyone is free to come along to watch the women in action, though there are also tickets available to enjoy a traditional Argentinean BBQ lunch with the ladies on the day. The Women of Beer are hoping that some of the other females visiting the brewery may even get their chance to put their own mark on this unique brew, be it helping to add the hops or enhancing the brew with the selected combination of delicate spicings that have been chosen for this decadent Tripel.
Once the beer has been brewed and bottled, it will be sold to select venues, with all profits being donated to a nominated charity. The Women in Beer are extremely grateful to True South who has donated the brewing facilities along with Grain & Grape, Bintani, Cryer Malt and Matilda Bay Brewing who have donated the brewing consumables.
