Ok, I edited the 2011 Beer Lover’s Guide to Australia so you’re not going to get an independent and unbiased review of it here. But with contributors including Pete Mitcham, Ian Watson and Kirrily Waldhorn all writing for this years edition, I really don’t need to gush too much anyway. Regular readers of Australian Brews News already know that these are some of the most interesting and plugged in independent beer writers in Australia at the moment. Add to the mix beer writing competition winner Nathan Costello and one of the most comprehensive directories of Australian breweries and beer venues, and you have a great read for beer lovers.

As microbreweries spring up around the country, the latest edition of the Beer Lovers Guide to Australia shows that while beer can be enjoyed anywhere, it can be worth travelling to savour at the source while discovering the story behind the brew.
Editor Matt Kirkegaard said that while wine has always had a sense of place that lent a touch of romance to a journey to taste it at the source, beer has often suffered through being perceived as a more industrial product.

“Aided by a new generation of brewers who refuse to be constrained by the limits of what we expect from beer, Australians are becoming more aware that they can, in turn, expect a little more from it.”
