Wellington hosting inaugural Pacific Beer Expo

Wellington will host an extraordinary new beer festival over Labour Weekend this year – the inaugural Pacific Beer Expo.

The event will be the best showcase of elite craft beer from the Pacific Rim ever assembled in New Zealand. The venue will be the Boatshed on Wellington’s waterfront. On tap will be around thirty beers from breweries such as Rogue from Oregon; Green Flash,
Ballast Point, Moylan’s, Coronado and Bear Republic from California; Baird from Japan; Feral, Jamieson and Bridge Road from Australia and a number of New Zealand’s finest and most adventurous breweries. The local contingent will be led by New Zealand’s new Champion Brewery 8 Wired and brand new Wellington nano-brewery Garage Project.

The event is being sponsored and organised by Wellington cult beer bar Hashigo Zake. It will consist of two five hour tasting sessions, running from 2pm until 7pm, on October 22 and 23, 2011.

Hashigo Zake’s Director, Dominic Kelly says this is the culmination of two years work helping to expand the trade of craft beer in our part of the world.

“Exports of New Zealand craft beer are booming and in this industry exports and imports are interdependent,” he said.

“Putting together an event like this is a chance for local consumers to measure our elite output against our neighbours’ best.”

Tickets will go on sale at Hashigo Zake, 25 Taranaki St and from the website www.cultbeerstore.co.nz during September.
