Barley’s Angels presents Ninkasi’s Angel

Ninkasi’s Angel logoNinkasi’s Angel, an elegant 7.8% Belgian Tripel brewed by the Women of Beer on Saturday 23rd July at the True South Brewery in Melbourne, will be officially launched on Tuesday 25th October at The Local Taphouse, St Kilda. This is the first time that an all-female collaboration beer has been brewed in the Southern Hemisphere and the start of what the ladies hope will become, at the very least, an annual beer release.

The name of the beer, Ninkasi’s Angel is in honour of Ninkasi, the ancient goddess of beer, who created her special beverage daily to satisfy the desire and sate the heart. The Women of Beer’s Ninkasi’s Angel pours with an orange tint, a slight haze and a tight white head. The beer exhibits citrus, cardamom and estery Belgian yeast aromas and the palate is spicy, rich and smooth with a hint of warming alcohol.

Speciality ingredients used in the brewing of Ninkasi’s Angel include Belgian candi sugar, golden naked oats, traditional French varieties of hops including Aramis and Strisselpalt, used for the first time commercially in Australia and for that little touch of spice… cardamon pods, pepperberries, Grains of Paradise and cassia bark. The brew has brought together the talents of True South’s Sam Füss, Red Hill’s Karen Golding, Two Birds’ Jayne Lewis, Matilda Bay’s Aine O’Hora, Hargreaves Hill’s Beth Williams and the Beer Diva, Kirrily Waldhorn.

This delightful beer is packaged in 750ml champagne bottles, which have been wax, dipped and packaged in cartons of 6 bottles. Sales of Ninkasi’s Angel are limited and all profits are being donated to The McGrath Foundation. The Women in Beer are extremely grateful to True South who has donated the brewing facilities along with Grain & Grape, Bintani, Cryer Malt and Matilda Bay Brewing who have donated the brewing consumables.
