Ipswich brewers take over the inaugural Queensland Homebrewing Conference

The fine citizens of Brisbane tend to look askance at the inhabitants of Ipswich, 40 minutes drive to the west of the state capital. However, while the residents of BrisVegas may pat themselves on the back for their coffee shops and bistros, it’s a dedicated band of Ippy homebrewers who are increasingly responsible for moving the craft beer football forward in the Sunshine State. Wade Curtis, the man behind 4 Hearts Brewing, is a constant and energetic proponent of craft beer and Tony Brown and Liam Ahearn are widely known and highly regarded in homebrewer circles. Add the Yamanto Tavern, which is far from the trendy suburban precincts of Brisbane but is rapidly becoming a craft beer mecca in the region and we’re starting to see a little craft beer hotspot emerge…[MK]

Ipswich brewers will be featuring heavily in The Inaugural Queensland Homebrewing Conference to be held at Southbank, Brisbane this Saturday, 5 November 2011.

Two of the Ipswich’s and QLD’s champion brewers Tony Brown and Liam Ahearn will each have brewed their award winnings beers for attendees to enjoy at the 4 course conference dinner.

Tony Brown has brewed his famous Ipswich Ale House American Pale Ale to be paired crispy skin pork belly on a bed of braised cabbage, apple and red wine vinegar and Liam Ahearn’s Karma Belgium Tripel will be paired with Mt Tambourine’s Witches Chase Wash Rind and Farmhouse Clothbound Cheddar Cheese.

4 Hearts’ Wade Curtis

As well as the amateur presence 4 Hearts Brewing owner Wade Curtis will be giving away samples of his 4 Degrees Pale Ale and Summer Wheat Beers in one of the breaks as well as featuring on a discussion panel where budding commercial brewers can hear all about what it takes to go from brewing in your backyard to selling to the local pub.

The conference is expecting approx. 200 keen brewers to attend the conference and approx. 70 people to attend the Dinner.

Tony’s and Liam’s beers are not available commercially.

4 Degrees Pale Ale is on tap at Yamanto Tavern and Bitter Suite, New Farm. 4 Degrees Summer Wheat beer is on tap only at Yamanto Tavern. Both beers are now available in 5 litre mini kegs from Harry Brown at Yamanto.
