Brewers Association appoints Chief Executive

ANNOUNCING THE APPOINTMENT OF A CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR THE BREWERS ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

Denita Wawn to join the Brewers Association of Australia and New Zealand as Chief Executive

Denita Wawn has been appointed to Chief Executive of the Brewers Association of Australia and New Zealand, from 3rd January 2012.

The Brewers Association is the association for manufacturing brewers in both Australia and New Zealand, its members include Lion, Carlton & United Breweries, Coopers Brewery and DB Breweries.

Ms Wawn was formerly with the National Farmers Federation for nine years as Acting CEO and General Manager for Workplace & Corporate Relations and prior worked for the Australian Hotels Association.

In making the announcement, James Brindley, Managing Director for Lion and Chair of the Brewers Association said that Ms Wawn’s strength and experience in government and public relations will stand her in good stead for this challenging and exciting role.

“Denita will bring excellent advocacy, policy and relationship building skills to the Association and help us to build a strong Association going forward.

The Brewers of Australia and New Zealand make a substantial economic contribution both through direct employment and through the agricultural, retail, hospitality and tourism industries.

It is important that beer’s contribution, to the economy and to social wellbeing through responsible consumption, is recognised,” Mr Brindley said.

Mr Brindley also paid tribute to Stephen Swift’s achievements over a period of eight years at the Association.

Mr Brindley said, “I would like to thank Stephen Swift for his contribution to the Association and brewing industry. I wish him every success for the future.”

Mr Brindley indicated that Ms Wawn’s immediate focus will be on building the profile of the Association and its strategic plan.
