A year on from two friends taking a leap of faith to form Two Birds Brewing, Jayne and Danielle are set to release the second brew in their core range. The timing of the release coincides with Good Beer Week, when the craft beer industry and its passionate followers, descend upon Melbourne.
The second beer from Two Birds can be characterised broadly as an American-style Red Ale, and is called Sunset Ale. The name is a tribute to the amazing red sunsets that Danielle and Jayne remember from growing up in Perth, Western Australia.
“The name just felt right for us and this beer, it’s a nice reminder of our roots and a tribute to where we’ve come from,” adds Danielle.
Sunset Ale is designed to show great complexity with a focus on the character imparted by the malt. This beer is brewed using a distinct combination of malts, including pale, wheat and Crystal malts to provide the round, rich, toffee notes.
The addition of US Citra and Australian Cascade hops adds a twist of grapefruit and tropical notes to balance the biscuity malt base.
The idea for Sunset Ale has been flying around in Brewer Jayne’s head for many years.
“I have always enjoyed red ales and there aren’t many Australian versions available. Part of the inspiration came from the life-changing trip that Danielle and I took along the West Coast of the US, where the idea for our business all began,” Jayne comments.
“Two Birds Sunset Ale is a full, rich beer and in keeping with our philosophy of balance, it demonstrates good balance of malt and hop characters”.
The Two Birds, with their Golden and Sunset Ales in tow, will be at a number of events during Good Beer Week.
