RBN puts its Crown on tap

August 27, 2012 by Radio Brews News

This week we catch up with Vincent Ruiu, General Manager, Global and Craft Brands, from Carlton and United Breweries to break the news that Crown Lager will be available on tap from 3 September.

Of course, we couldn’t let the chance to speak with Vincent pass without getting an update on the history of Crown Lager and Matt continues to flog the horse that is the fifth ingredient. [Update: When Vincent says he will never tell Matt how long Crown Lager is lagered for, maybe that’s just something else that the new SABMiller masters will change. They don’t seem to have any problems discussing lagering times, at least when there’s something to actually brag about. Of course, making exaggerated claims about your ‘lagering’ times and refusing to provide details about it is nothing new in the world of arriviste beer.]

We also get a little insight into the future of CUB’s Matilda Bay and Cascade brands…

Today’s Pacific rendition of the Beer Barrel Polka comes to us performed by Kaina Boys from the well known album Kaina Boys No Moorea Tahiti Kaina Music. Buy it here, thank us later.

Great podcast as usual, I take my hat off and tilt my glass to Vincent, he handled the interview well and I thought he made some good marketing points that need to be considered with each beer “category”. I am looking forward to tasting both the draught Crown and hopefully a few more seasonal brews by Cascade.

Cheers Jon – Yep, we give Vincent full credit for coming on the show. He didn’t vet the questions or limit what could be talked about and it shows confidence in what the company is doing knowing that Pete and Matt were going to be, well, Pete and Matt. Matt may not agree with some of it, but everyone gets to hear both sides of the conversation and make up their own minds. Hopefully there will be more of it.

So I take it that the aging process for Ambassador is disclosed because the information makes them look good, and Crown’s isn’t, because it makes them look like a bottom-line chasing Bevco…Anyone?
