People’s Choice Awards reveal Melbourne’s favourite boutique brews at Fed Square’s Microbreweries Showcase

Across two nights with more than 30 Victorian breweries, over 100 craft beers and ciders on show and close to 4,000 discerning beer lovers, the best brews have been named.

Following their success in March 2012 Microbreweries Showcase, Lucky Duck Cider Company has taken out top honours again with Best Cider Producer and Best Cider. Following in their footsteps, newcomers Sideshow Brewers and Red Island Brewing made a splash at their first Microbreweries Showcase, both earning the People’s Choice Award of Best Pale Ale.

Black Heart Brewery, run by former VicBrew Champion and cardiac surgeon, won the hearts (pun intended) and palettes of the avid beer drinkers and earned the coveted Best Brewery award.

Best Brewery Award: Black Heart Brewery
Best Cider Producer: Lucky Duck Cider
Best Wheat Beer: Mildura Brewery, Honey Wheat
Best Lager: Moon Dog Brewing, Love Tap
Best Pale Ale: Sideshow Brewers, Ticketbooth Pale Ale
+ Red Island Brewing Co, Quiet Deeds
Best Dark Ale: White Rabbit Brewery, Dark Ale
Best Stout: Bellarine Brewing Co, Mussle Stout
Best Belgian: Bright Brewery, Fainters Dubbel
Best Specialty: Harcourt Valley Brewing Co, Ginja Kid
Best Cider: Lucky Duck Cider, Apple Cider

You could ask that question of all of the contract breweries, given the name of the event: microbreweries. But such are the times…

Will Quiet Deeds be boasting about their win?
