Clout Stout wins gold medal

nail_clout_stoutNail Brewing Australia has won one of only about forty gold’s from 1490 entries given at the 2013 Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA). 277 breweries from 39 countries entered the AIBA held in Melbourne last night. The AIBA is the 2nd biggest beer competition in the world.

Clout Stout won gold which made it the 5th consecutive year Nail Brewing has won a gold medal at AIBA. Nail Brewing other beers Nail Ale and Golden Nail won silvers and Nail Stout bronze.

Clout Stout is a specialty batched brewed once a year to celebrate Nail Brewing being a year older. Clout Stout 2010 was originally brewed to celebrate Nail Brewing’s 10th birthday. The 2012 batch will be released in limited edition bottle in June. Clout Stout 2012 is a 11% Russian Imperial Stout. Only 800 numbered bottles were made.. Russian Imperial Stout were originally brewed with high alcohol so they could be shipped from England to Russian. Clout Stout is a black beer with extremely rich malt flavour and aroma, balanced by assertive hop character and fruity esters. A luxurious smooth full body provides a mouth coating experience with each sip. It comes in a 750ml bottle that is best shared for special occasions. A boxed 750ml bottle of Clout Stout retails for about $80 and is sold in WA, NSW, QLD, SA and VIC.

Nail Brewing started in 2000 but operations stopped in 2004 when John received a brain injury from a one punch assault. Nail beers are presently brewed at Nails brewery in Bassendean, Western Australia. The new Bassendean warehouse started in June last year. The warehouse is not open to the public. Nail also brews development batches at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup.

Nail Brewing made international news in 2010 when a fund raising (Sea Shepherd Society) bottle of Antarctic Nail Ale sold for $1850 (the most expensive beer in the world).
