Six more craft beer taps at Petersham Bowling Club

June 26, 2013 by Media Release

Local, micro brewed beer available at a century old bowls club? Now that is something we’ll happily file in the “good news” folder at Brews News. It’s still one of the last places this Melbournian would expect to find craft beer today. However, for the craft beer market to actually grow beyond its 3% share and for the microbrewers to truly flourish in Australia, their beer supplies need to be pouring from taps beyond modern cities bars and specialty retailers.  Here is one example of where that is now happening.

The progressive and community run Petersham Bowling Club in Sydney have announced that they now have twelve beer taps, doubling their draught beer range. All the beers on offer come from small breweries, with the majority from NSW, along with special releases from some of Australia’s most highly regarded craft brewers. The news taps will be unveiled at their membership drive event this Sunday. [JD]

Six New Craft Beer Taps at the Petersham Bowling Club

Logo of the PBCEstablished in 1896, the Petersham Bowling & Recreation Club (the PBC) is one of the oldest clubs in NSW, with a rich and interesting history now revitalised as a vibrant, dynamic and creative, poker-free community club with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, and a growing reputation for offering the best in local live music.

The PBC also has a strong passion for great tasting craft beer and the club has built a strong relationship with local brewers, Rocks Brewing Company, Young Henry’s and Stone & Wood Brewing, all of which have proven very popular with members and their guests.

But six taps isn’t enough! After much planning and fundraising, more planning and a bit more fundraising, we are pleased to announce the launch of six more craft taps this Sunday the 30th of June at the Annual Membership Drive.

And some new friends are coming to the party, with Mountain Goat’s Rare Breed Surefoot Stout; Stone & Wood’s annual Stone Beer; one of only four kegs in NSW of Perth brewer Nail’s Single Batch Golden Ale; Feral Brewing’s multi-award winning Hop Hog; and something special from Newtown’s own Young Henry’s.

Get down to the PBC this Sunday from 2pm for the launch plus live music, DJ on the Green, a jumping castle and a pig on the spit.
