Eagle Bay Brewing release single batch Black IPA

Introducing our latest Single Batch…the Black India Pale Ale

This winter we will feature two single batch brews, starting off with our Black India Pale Ale

Our Single Batch Black IPA is handcrafted and slow-brewed in one batch of only 800 litres. It is made using only four ingredients; rainwater, malted barley, yeasts and hops. We have sourced quality ingredients from our backyard and around the globe. We have captured fresh rainwater from the skies to make this full flavoured and freshly brewed Single Batch Black IPA.

India Pale Ale (IPA) was first brewed in England for export to the English troops and settlers colonising India in the 1800’s. The style is super hoppy because the hops helped preserve the beer on the long sea voyage to India, which involved crossing the equator twice (beer doesn’t last long in the heat). So, IPAs have been around for nearly 200 years.

Fast forward to 2003, when a group of experimental craft brewers in the Pacific North-West of the USA tinkered with the IPA style to develop a new style of beer that is dark like a Porter, but hoppy like an IPA.

They called it Black IPA or Cascadian Dark Ale (the term Cascadia is derived from the Cascade Mountain Range in the west of the USA).

Since 2003, Black IPA has mostly been brewed as a specialty beer for beer festivals, however this style has gained a following among craft beer lovers in the USA, and the American beer authorities recognised it as a new beer style by officially creating and defining American Style India Black Ale as a beer style in 2010.

Our Black IPA is deep brown to black in colour, it has prominent pine and citrus hop aromas typical of the hops from the Pacific North-West. Rich and robust with hints of chocolate and coffee from the dark malts the Black IPA is delicious, a smooth ale to be savoured.

We only have 800L of this one-off special single batch brew, it is available until it runs out.
