Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Show
Judging: Wednesday 18 – Thursday 19 September, 2013 (media invited to attend)
Awards Function: Friday 20 September, 2013
The RAS has been judging Beer as part of the Summer Fine Food Show since the Sydney Royal Beer Competition was established in 2007; however 2013 is the first time in the competition’s history that it will be a standalone event due to its increasing popularity.
Classes to be judged include Golden Lagers, Dark Lagers, Pale and Golden Ales, Amber and Dark Ales, Stouts and Porters, Wheat Beers, Strong Beers, Reduced Alcohol Beer, Cider, Perry and Speciality Beer.
The introduction of classes for Cider in the 2013 competition reflects current industry and market trends, with cider now a popular drink for many Australian consumers, particularly women and the 18–24 market.
Respected industry expert, Neal Cameron will take on the role of Chief Judge for the competition. Mr Cameron brings considerable industry experience as Head Brewer at The Australian Brewery, a regular beer and cider judge, a tasting panellist for Beer and Brewer Magazine and Treasurer of Cider Australia.
“Sydney Royal has unquestionably set a high standard in both judging and benchmarking over the years. It is extremely exciting to be involved, and not a little intimidating to be asked to carry on this tradition,” said Mr Cameron.
“Australia is going through an unprecedented cider boom currently, with over 100 producers now creating products for the domestic market. It will be fantastic to have the opportunity to support these producers with the inclusion of cider into the awards for the first time.”
Entries for the Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Show close on Wednesday 7 August, 2013. All exhibitors are encouraged to enter online by visiting www.sydneyroyal.com.au/beercider.
Competition award winners will be celebrated at a function held at Sydney Showground on Friday 20 September, 2013. Members of the public are invited to attend, where they will meet the winning producers, talk to the competition judges and taste outstanding award-winning beer and cider. Tickets will be on sale from mid-August at www.sydneyroyal.com.au/beercider.
