Trade Out Master boosts hotel savings and profits

Regular cleaning of beer lines is vital if draught beer is to be served in the best possible condition.

However, cleaning usually means the beer already in the lines is wasted, representing a significant cost for publicans.

For the average hotelier who cleans the lines once a week, as recommended, this waste is about 25 litres per clean – which represents more than $20,000 a year in “lost” sales.

However a new item of equipment introduced by beer systems provider Hoshizaki Lancer will enable this beer to be sold, rather than thrown out, minimising waste and improving profits while assisting the cleaning process.

The new Lancer Trade Out Master automatically shutsdown the supply of beer into lines before a scheduled clean, sending gas up the line instead. This allows the beer already in the lines to be traded out rather than wasted.

Mr Joe Thorp, the Managing Director of Hoshizaki Lancer, said the system offered significant savings and improvements in quality for customers.

“Not cleaning beer lines has a huge impact on beer quality,” Mr Thorp said.

“This system will minimise wastage which in turn will encourage regular cleaning of beer lines and improve the quality of beer served to customers.”

Mr Thorp said the Trade Out Master recorded when beer line cleans were due and automatically commenced trade out of beer lines before a scheduled clean.

“Solenoids switch from beer to gas at different times for each brand depending on consumption so a low volume beer switches over earlier than a high volume product,” he said.

“It’s also automatic so cellar hands don’t need to go down to the cellar to manually disconnect the lines.”

Mr Thorp said the Trade Out Master would help overcome some of the less desirable practices in some hotels and clubs.

“There is a practice, which is common in some regions, of blowing the beer in the lines back into the keg before cleaning,” he said

“The practice is frowned upon by the breweries, but is still relatively common.

“If we can eliminate or significantly reduce the amount of waste in lines, these practices can also be eliminated.”

Mr Thorp said that for the average hotel, the cost of the Trade Out Master would be covered in less than a year.
