Home Brew Masters at The Vic

…You Can Bew It!

Beer, it’s a strange brew. Just a handful of ingredients can create countless flavours, colours and aromas to produce beers ranging from a light crisp Bavarian Blonde to a wintry Russian Imperial Stout. And it’s no longer just the domain of the big concerns or craft brewhouses.

The Vic Enmore is searching for the country’s backyard brew master with its inaugural festival of froth, the Home Brewing Challenge, on Saturday 29 March.

Individuals and clubs are invited to submit two brews — a lighter and a darker style — for judging by a panel of experts.

The winner will have a commercial batch of their drop brewed by Young Henry’s Brewery in Newtown, to be sold at The Vic. There will also be a people’s choice award for the most popular beer selected by the public on the day.

Up to 30 entrants are expected to set up at The Vic, where the public will be able to sample entries while the judges — including brewers from Young Henry’s, Malt Shovel Brewery and celebrities — so, get to work.

Entrants will be asked to make a video diary of their process — without out giving away their secrets, of course.

There will also be information sessions and demonstrations for budding home brewers. The Vic’s
restaurant will complement its unique menu with its famous spit roast.

Home brewers need not have the latest most expensive equipment, see what you can do with yourstore-bought DIY kit.

This homebrew competition will be following the style-guides used by The Australia Amateur Brewing Championships.
