Name the new Bridge Road baby

Following the success of his social media shout-out to name a pair of international collaboration beers – resulting in Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis – Ben Kraus is at it again, this time seeking a name for the Australian version of his collaboration with an Italian craft brewer.

Aurora Borealis, the barrel-aged quadrupel fromBridge Road Brewers and Nøgne Ø which landed an impressive top 10 spot in this year’s Local Taphouse Hottest 100, saw the two brewers brew the same beer then age it in barrels from their local regions. This time, Kraus is brewing here the same beer he brewed at Birra Del Borgo during August last year, using Aussie hops and an Italian citrus ingredient. He wants your suggestions for the beer’s name, and is offering beer as a reward.

Here is today’s Facebook post from Kraus:

HELP NAME OUR NEWEST BABY!

“Well it’s not really a baby, we are in the need for a name for our latest beer, due to be brewed tomorrow.

What is it you ask? Well, the answer to that is long…

Last August saw me visit Leo from Birra Del Borgo in Italy to brew a beer together, thanks to contact made possible through the crew from Birra Italiana by ExperienceIt.

The idea was to create something that combined both Italian and Australian ingredients. The solution was to combine Italian Bergamotto (citrus) peel with Australian hops, cue Hop Products Australia.

The result was a small batch of Bergamotto IPA, hoppy and very aromatic from the perfumed Bergamotto.

Now, the deal was to replicate this beer in Australia, and Leo has come through with the goods. We now have a big sack of dried Bergamotto peel ready and waiting for tomorrows brew day. As for hops, we will be using Topaz, Galaxy and Vic Secret.

So we have the recipe sorted, and this is where you come in, we need a name.

Prizes:

This beer will be officially launched as part of the ‘HopFest 5’ event at The Alehouse Project in Melbourne (during late March, details will be announced soon).

Whoever comes up with the chosen name will win the Green Ticket = a voucher to sample a pot of each of the 20 beers over 5 days. If the winner is from out of town we’ll send you some beer!”
