Goodbye Brussels. Hello Buffalo.

Iconic Brisbane venue, the Belgian Beer Café announces closure, American export Buffalo Bar is set to open in the premises late November.

Inner-city’s dining and drinking stalwart of more than a decade, the Belgian Beer Café Brisbane, will be serving last drinks on Sunday October 5 in a move that building co-owner, Michael O’Brien of the O’Brien Catering Group describes as a new era for the heritage-listed building.

After an exhaustive tender process, Michael is delighted to announce that he has selected Simon O’Brien and his team at Fortitude Valley’s Mighty Mighty cue & brew as new tenants for the magnificent building on the corner of Mary and Edward Street.

Michael looks to their tenure with much excitement for the future of one of Brisbane’s favourite venues.

“We were delighted with the high level of quality and talented operators who sought to secure the rights to operate the restaurant/bar” said Michael.

“Buffalo Bar was the standout proposal and I have no doubt it will be an outstanding success.“With an iconic building that is steeped in tradition and prestige, and a new concept not yet seen in the CBD, I’m confident we’re going to see this become one of the city’s must-experience venues” said Michael.

The closure of the Belgian Beer Café will strike a chord for locals, and they plan to go out with a bang on Sunday October 5 to coincide with the NRL Grand Final live telecast from their much loved beer garden.

“Patrons new and old are invited along for one final hurrah before we welcome Buffalo Bar to the premises.”

Buffalo Bar will showcase American food and drink on a much larger scale than seen before in Australia, including a sit-down dining hall serving varied American fare across lunch and dinner. Inside, an indoor craft beer and whiskey lounge will play homage to a vibrant, rockabilly atmosphere with a separate bar menu featuring 18 namesake signature buffalo wings. Outdoors, the craft beer lounge will boast one of the country’s most extensive U.S. craft beer lists, an extended selection of whiskeys, wine and specialty cocktails.

Drawing on the success of Mighty Mighty, Buffalo Bar will be a standalone entity, seeing the venue encompass the wider American experience from New York inspired fittings to the embrace of southern charm through the warm furnishings and existent Victorian era façade, to the laidback Californian feel of the beer lounge out back.

Co-owner Simon O’Brien, with a team including executive chef Adam Herbert and renowned beer expert, Matt Kirkegaard, have championed the introduction of American cuisine in Brisbane’s dining sector since the inception of Mighty Mighty cue & brew in November last year. After an overwhelming reception, they’re excited to sink their teeth into this new ambitious endeavour to curate American fare sympathetic to the city-dwelling environment of the sunburnt state of Queensland.

“We’ve been absolutely delighted to see how Mighty Mighty has been received and to experience increased demand for this kind of offering” said Simon.

“Expansion was always a projection and we’re thrilled to have been entrusted with this iconic building to launch Buffalo Bar – a place unseen before in this state, in this country. The building has been maintained immaculately and captures the essence of American spirit in its charismatic Australian surrounds”.

Buffalo Bar opens late November to trade 7 days a week, ahead of the busy Christmas period where it is set to be Brisbane’s hot ticket for functions and events this summer.
