Ballarat Beer Festival set for 2016

October 20, 2015 by Media Release

For the fifth time, Victoria’s first craft beer festival – Ballarat Beer Festival – will take place at the City Oval in Ballarat on Saturday 16th of January 2016.

New Festival Director Ric Dexter, from local gastro pub The Mallow Hotel, is proud to declare it the biggest and best festival to date, with more than 35 craft brewers from across Australia descending on Ballarat for one day of tasting, matching and live brewing sessions led by Brews News’ Pete Mitcham.

The festival will also feature local winemakers, as well as food trucks and the Brewcage, a new exclusive marquee area especially tailored to fit larger groups and corporate guests.

The 2016 edition of the festival will also present a bigger and better live music line-up than ever before. Headlining act will be no other than iconic Australian rock band You Am I, supported by Dallas Crane, Kylie Auldist, The ReChords, Bakersfield Glee Club and The New Savages.

“Possibly the most exciting news this year is that we got approval from the City Council to rename Ballarat to Beerllarat for the weekend of the Festival,” Festival Director Ric Dexter said.

“Ballarat is home to two craft breweries, 3500 home brewers and the largest university course for brewing in the Southern Hemisphere. It has been the epicentre of Australian beer brewing for decades and we are proud to be a part of this vibrant and exciting town.”

The traditional Friday Degustation Dinner will be held on the eve of the festival, this time with celebrity chef Daniel Wilson from Melbourne’s Huxtable and Huxtaburger, who will plate up a delicious four course dinner with matching beers.
