Matso's Rare Release GingerRare Release Ginger: Barley Wine Edition is the first in a new series of limited edition beers from Matso’s Broome Brewery.

Under the Rare Release brand name, Matso’s will showcase unique beers that will be available in 500ml share bottles only, while stocks last.

The launch of the Rare Release brand coincides with the 18th birthday of Matso’s Ginger Beer, the brewery’s highest selling product.

Rare Release Ginger: Barley Wine Edition is an 11 per cent ABV American-style barley wine infused with ginger and natural spices and aged on oak staves soaked in dark rum.

“The American hops, Amarillo and Citra, give the beer a citrus, zesty edge that cuts right through the malty flavour while the English hops (East Kent Goldings) support the spices nicely,” Matso’s said.

Head brewer Dave Phillips suggested the barley wine could be one for the cellar.

“You should probably pre-order at least two: one to drink now, and one to age for a year or so. This brew will age very well and is made to be shared with friends, so you’ll probably need more than two!” he said.

The Rare Release Ginger: Barley Wine Edition will be available in late November, with only a limited number of cartons being produced, at selected stockists.

I am def not a fan of this brew – super sweet and kinda like bandaid juice! I am interested to know how many people reached for the second bottle as soon as they finished the first, cause this release actually made me angry. Quite terrible.
