Yarra Valley’s Buckleys Beer under new management

The new owners of Healesville, Victoria-based brewery Buckleys Beer have wasted no time ringing the changes.

Buckleys was acquired by husband and wife team Brendan and Julie-Anne Murnane in March this year.

Previous brewer Steve Walker has stayed on under the new regime with Brendan, a home brewer with longstanding professional ambitions, also overseeing production.

“Both Julie and myself have a professional history in sales,” Murnane told Australian Brews News.

He said Buckleys has undergone a rebrand and there have also been significant changes to the beers.

“The beer we brew is based on the four originals that have been brewed by Buckleys in the past,” he said.

“We have tweaked all the recipes and are reasonably happy with them now. We brew four styles; an English Pale Ale, a Pilsener, a Special Bitter and a Dark Bock.

“We will expand the range and maybe drop one or two of our existing ones in the future. I wanted to brew them my way and see how they went before making any significant range changes,” he said.

Murnane said the bulk of Buckleys’ sales are through the cellar door, which has also been revamped.

“We also sell to a couple of the local wineries (of which there are many) and cafes,” he said.

“We are just now starting to approach independent liquor stores and do tastings.”

Buckleys Beer is located at 30 Hunter Road, Healesville and is open from 11am to 5pm on weekends.
