A start-up beer company aims to address the current lack of organic beers on the Australian market.
Struman’s Organic Beer Co is Australia’s only dedicated organic beer company, founder Ash Truscott told Australian Brews News.
To his knowledge there are no other organic beers currently available in Australia other than Mountain Goat Organic Steam Ale and Redoak Organic Pale Ale.
“That’s it, as far as we’re aware, and they are in craft. There’s been a couple of others in the past that have come and gone,” he said.

Truscott said Struman’s is very deliberately playing in the mainstream beer segment, where it will sit on the shelves alongside premium lagers such as Boag’s, Crown and Peroni.
Despite using more expensive ingredients to secure organic status, Truscott said the Struman’s beers are actually selling at a slight discount to these established brands.
“We’ve taken a haircut on the margins, but we’re trying to grow a bit of volume,” he said.
Produced at Brewpack in New South Wales, the Struman’s range currently consists of a Premium Lager and a lower carb Dry.
They are currently exclusive to Dan Murphy’s and BWS stores.
Very much in the mainstream mould, but if that’s the market you’re targeting then fine. Not for me though just too bland.
Its currently $56 a carton at Dan’s so not exactly on financial par with Boags

Currently tasting the premium lager and enjoying the beer. Good flavour and light hops. Malts are more pronounced which is a good thing. My question is can I recommend this beer to my coleiac friends?
Dry is pretty ordinary so far, hint of apple but nothing pronounced. Worth $10 on the monthly spesh I suppose.
