Modus launches Session IPA cans

A Session IPA has become the third permanent beer in cans for Sydney’s Modus Operandi Brewing Company.

The 4.1 per cent ABV IPA is hopped with Simcoe, Citra and Chinook, Modus co-founder Jaz Wearin told Australian Brews News.

“We chose to bring in a Session IPA, because we think it is important to have a balanced core range, in terms of ABV,” she said.

“One thing we were really conscious of, was bringing in a beer that still represented what Modus relishes in: Bold, hoppy and balanced beers.

“This can be tricky with a Session IPA, but Dennis, our head brewer, has achieved this through careful malt and hop choices,” Wearin said.

She said the beer has been very well received on draught in the brewery bar as well as external venues.

“The good thing about our brewpub is we get immediatefeedback from hundreds of customers on all of our seasonal releases,” Wearin said.

“This session IPA continually topped this list in our venue… We have paid attention to this, which is why this beer will become part of the core range inboth draught and cans.”

While the Session IPA style has been the source of some debate, it is clearly here to stay, recording 200 per cent growth year-on-year in the US.

To celebrate the launch, Modus will be having a ‘tinny party’ this Friday September 23at the brewery where people can enjoy fresh cans straight off the line.

The cans will become available in other Modus stockists from September 26.
