Bumper program for Good Beer Week

It’s time to get excited: the official program for this year’s Good Beer Week is now live, so grab your pens and start marking your calendar! Now in its seventh year, Australia’s premier craft beer festival returns to Melbourne from 12-21 May to celebrate the best of Australian and International brews with an exciting calendar of events for everyone to enjoy at more than 200 venues across Melbourne and Victoria.

To help punters choose their own Good Beer Week adventure, this year’s program has been streamlined into four main categories: Beer Lover, Foodie, Beer Geek, and Good Times. With over 250 unique events taking place over nine days, this year’s bumper program is much more than just a festival of beer. From basketball competitions, live music and a brewery circus to opera at St Paul’s Cathedral and international guest chef degustations, there truly is a huge range of offerings to suit all tastes and interests.

Whether you’re into fancy, foamed or foraged dishes, or simply love a good old-fashioned pot and parma, there’s no denying that food and beer can be a match made in heaven. In an exciting addition to this year’s program, Mountain Goat Brewery is partnering up with Smudge Eats and 20 of Melbourne’s beloved restaurants to help feed the hungry festival masses with the all-new Smudge Eats Menu Presented by Mountain Goat. Punters can enjoy a delicious two course set lunch, washed down with a glass of Mountain Goat brew for the very tasty price of $40 per person.

As part of this year’s inaugural Good Beer Mates program, Good Beer Week will play host to some of biggest stars in the US and international brewing scene, including Ken Grossman (founder of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co) who is heading to Le Bon Ton in Collingwood for an exclusive and intimate evening, sharing new brews paired with a delicious Texan feast. Ryan Schmeige (assistant brewer at Deschutes Brewery) will also be coming down under to share some of his magnificent beer knowledge with a lucky few, along with some very limited edition kegs as part of the Monsters of U.S Craft Party and Masterclass Series at the Carwyn Cellars in Thornbury. Cocktail aficionados will not want to miss the special collaboration between Portland’s Jacob Grier and the award winning Black Pearl bartenders, who will come together for one night only to create what promises to be an intriguing and innovative cocktail menu using beer in ways you will have never imagined.

Presented by The Crafty Pint, the Pint of Origin (PoO) series will once again be taking over taps at some of Melbourne’s favourite watering holes, bringing brewers, bars and beer lovers together to showcase the best beers from Australia and abroad. For the week of the festival, punters can head to any of the 17 participating venues for a chance to try special, limited edition Australian and international brews and collaborations from Perth to Portland, Oregon. Meet some of the world’s best brewers in person while enjoying a range of free and fun entertainment.

There are plenty of free events to enjoy, however ticketed events are limited and some will sell out fast. To secure your place, visit www.goodbeerweek.com.au or download the Good Beer Week app to purchase your tickets online.
