New lease of life for Sydney CBD brewpub

November 23, 2017 by James Atkinson

All Hands Brewing House is the new identity of a longstanding Sydney brewpub relaunched today following a major refurbishment.

The CBD venue and brewery was previously known as King Street Brewhouse, and before that James Squire Brewhouse.

Red Rock Leisure acquired the venue in 2013 and has since brewed beers on-site under the Red Tape Brewing Company brand name.

The venue has re-opened this week with an updated fitout that has created a variety of spaces including a ‘specialised beer tasting room’ known as the Engine Room, the 350-capacity Brewery Room and a huge beer garden on the wharf.

Red Rock Leisure comprehensively refurbished the king Street Wharf venue

Proper job
A comprehensive refurbishment of the venue has always been on the cards for Red Rock, All Hands head brewer Sam Clayman told Brews News.

“They were just biding their time until recently. The old version of the King Street Brewhouse wasn’t losing money so they took their time to make sure they did it right when they did it,” he said.

“I think they’ve achieved that. It’s a very pretty place, it’s amazing.”

Red Rock has installed a brand new 12-hectolitre Premier Stainless brewhouse on-site with five big serving tanks.

“Most of our beers are being served out of bulk,” says Clayman.

He says the core range beers currently comprise a cream ale and stout, both of which are served on nitrogen, as well as a lager, IPA, mid-strength English bitter and a saison that will constantly evolve.

“We’re going to use the same base beer for the saison and then every two or three batches, just use different saison yeast,” he said.

No contracts
The venue has 30 taps in all, with eight different All Hands beers duplicated in the various bars.

Clayman says there are no contracts in place for the taps currently pouring six other beers from the likes of Young Henrys, Four Pines, Byron Bay, Kosciuszko and Cricketers Arms. Peroni is the most commercial beer on the list.

The venue also offers classic and signature cocktails, wines and an extensive list of packaged beers. Food comprises American staples, pub classics, seafood and salads.

All Hands Brewing House is is located at 22 The Promenade King St. Wharf and officially re-opened on Thursday November 23.

Brewery openings are presented by Spark Breweries and Distilleries, the finest in-venue and production brewing systems available, with local design and support.
