Gladfield Malt NZ is delighted to announce the appointment of Hayden Lockie to the position of Australian Sales Representative. Hayden joins the team at an exciting time of growth for Gladfield and will take the lead on sales, customer service and technical support for the Australian marketplace.
Working alongside Sales & Marketing Director Gabi Michael, and Maltster & Director Doug Michael, Hayden will provide local support across all states and will further enhance Gladfield’s unique commitment to customer service by providing a boots-on-the-ground presence, whilst preserving direct access to the Maltsters and business owners that their customers love.

Being a family business it is super-important that we welcome the right people to the team who can reflect and enhance the character of the business. In Hayden we feel we have found the right personality, plus his brewing knowledge and sales background bring added benefits and allow us to work even more closely with our customers” says Gabi.
Hayden has a background in consumer electronics sales and account management but has always had a deep passion for the art and craft of beer. After many years of home brewing and earning a Graduate Certificate in Brewing from Ballarat University, he made the decision to take a leap from corporate life and into the Brewing industry.
“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to be welcomed as a brewer (and general do-everythinger) at Batch Brewery in Marrickville where I’ve taken my brewing experience and knowledge to an entirely new level. This is great knowledge to bring to this new role” he says.
On joining the team at Gladfield, Hayden says, “I am very proud to join the team as Australian employee 001. As a brewer I have had first-hand experience working with the Gladfield range and have always been impressed with the quality, flavour and brewhouse performance of their malts. Plus, Gladfield is just such a great business to be involved with. They have a great story, the quality of the malts is second to none and they’re a brilliant bunch of passionate people. I’m thrilled that I’ll be playing a part to bring our amazing flavours, colours and aromas to even more of the breweries and brands that we love across Australia.”
Gabi continues, “Core to the Gladfield approach is making the best quality malt in the world backed by excellent customer service. We’re partners in the brewhouse and grow with our customers, so bringing Hayden on board gives us more opportunity to provide a trusted and personal service to the brewers that will be customized to their specific brewhouse and style. Plus having a team member in the same time zone is a big bonus!”

Hayden spent the best part of the last 2 decades mixing a career in sales for the ‘best-of-breed’ IT and consumer electronics companies with a passion for craft beer. After acquiring a post graduate certificate in Brewing, and with many years of home brewing experience under his belt, Hayden left the corporate life in 2016 to take up a job as a brewer at Batch Brewery in Sydney. With it came an introduction to the people who made the best malt in the world – Doug and Gabi from Gladfield.
