Capital Brewing Co’s tap-room favourite Rock Hopper IPA hits bottle stores in 375ml cans.

The big, American West Coast style IPA is a showcase of award-winning Head Brewer Wade Hurley’s Californian roots. Before moving to the Australian capital, Hurley cut his teeth at San Diego’s renowned Green Flash Brewery, then moved to Coronado Brewing Company taking out the2014 World Beer Cup Champion Brewery/Champion Brewmaster Award and the Gold Medal for Islander IPA.

“I’ve been brewing West-Coast style IPAs for a long time now” said Hurley. “Rock Hopper was one of the first brews that came out of our new production facility here in Fyshwick last year and it’s proved one of the most popular beers we have on draught, so it’s really exciting to get it into cans”

Weighing in at 6.1%ABV, Rock Hopper is packed with tropical hop flavours of mango, passionfruit and melon from Citra, Chinook, Centennial and Amarillo hops.

“It’s very fruity, very dry, very hoppy. It has a nice dry finish which makes it easier to drink and
very sessionable” said Hurly.

Launch events are also happening over the coming weeks at Sydney’s 3 Weeds Hotel, and Tropicana on the Central Coast.

This is the 5th core-range release for the Canberra Brewery which is going from strength to strength since opening its production facility and tap-room in September last year. In that time overall production has jumped from 39,000L /month to more than 102,000L.

With the arrival of four more fermenters in the next three weeks, production capacity will be doubled to keep up with demand. Rock Hopper will be initially available throughout Canberra, and select bottle-shops in Sydney and Newcastle, with nationwide release later in the year. A full stockist can be found here.
