2018 Australian Craft Beer Survey Launches

Online beer retailer, Beer Cartel, has just launched its 2018Australian Craft Beer Survey.

The retailer says the 2018 Australian Craft Beer Survey aims to be themost comprehensive, publicly released research ever undertaken with Australian craft beer drinkers, building upon thethe 2016 and 2017 versions of the same study, which saw over 23,000craft beer drinkers take part.

he survey results have come to be regularly referenced in industry lobbying and news articles, especially highlighting that survey respondents have a strong affinity for independence.

Richard Kelsey, Director of Beer Cartel said while the study will measure changes in craft beer habitsover the past year it will be particularly interesting to see how three breweries; 4 Pines, Feral Brewingand Pirate Life are viewed. Each was purchased by a large multi-national company at the back-end of2017.

“Last year the survey found a strong preference for beer produced by independently-ownedbreweries,” he said.

At the time beer drinkers rated Pirate Life as Australia’s best brewery, with Feral Brewingsecond. It will be interesting to see if perceptions have changed and if the buy-outs have had anyinfluence on consumer purchase habits.”

The survey will also seek to understand how the Australian Independent Brewers Association’s (IBA)newly released Independence Seal is likely to impact consumer purchase behaviour in the future.

The results of the study will be made public to support and grow the Australian craft beer industry. In addition, Beer Cartel will offer businesses that promote the survey the opportunity to better understand their customer base, through their own tailored report.
