The beer and cider industry’s night of nights, The Beeries will take place on Thursday, September 20 with public voting for the prestigious awards now open.

The event, which is in its second year, celebrates the good in the beer and cider community and acknowledges the individuals who have demonstrated a commitment and outstanding contribution to the
industry throughout the year.

Held at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane, a total of eight awards will be presented on the night with seven of the winners determined by a two-step process which involves The Beeries advisory panel compiling a shortlist of finalists which is then released to the public for voting.

The advisory panel, also known as The Beeries Committee consists of a team of notable industry experts including the founder of Brisbane’s Beer InCider Experience, Martin Keetels. Mr Keetels will be accompanied on the panel by the likes of Les Riddell, manager of Helsby’s Alehouse at The Pineapple Hotel, Hugh Doyle, a business development manager for Stone and Wood Brewing Co and Cassie Potts, founder of Fitz+Potts. Matt Emmerson, co-owner of Caxton Street’s Brewski and Rory Gibson from the Courier Mail will also bring
their industry knowledge to the committee.

Keetels said the event provides a once-a-year opportunity for the beer and cider industry’s leaders to be acknowledged for their efforts.

“The Beeries is set to be a true celebration of this industry. As you would expect, we’ve assembled the best drinks package ever assembled for a gala dinner in Brisbane, booked honky tonk music outfit Suga Owens and we’re expecting a whole lot of dancing once the awards have been announced,” Keetels said.

“Not only do guests have the chance to rub shoulders with the best in the business, they also have the opportunity to hear some tall stories from James Smith, the Founder of Crafty Pint.”

Awards will be presented to the Best Beer Tender, Best Beer Retailer, Best Cider Maker, Best Brewer, Best Brewery/Cidery Rep and the most notable, The Gold Beery for the Best Community Contributor.

This year’s awards will also see the addition of the Best New Brewery Award, which is open to breweries that opened after January 1, 2017.

The only award that remains in the hands of the Beeries Committee is the Special Achievement Award, which recognises an individual for their selfless involvement in the growth and development of the beer
and cider community.

Tickets to The Beeries are $135 each or $125 each for eight or more (must be purchased in one booking).

Ticket price includes canapes and welcome drinks followed by dinner, a great drinks package, live music and raffles. All proceeds raised from the event will be donated to not-for-profit organisation, Brewsvegas.
