Little Creatures celebrates 18th birthday with new craft beer and anniversary events

Little Creatures is celebrating its ‘coming of age’ with a new craft beer and calendar of events at its Fremantle and Geelong breweries which kick off on the 2nd November and run through until the 21st December.

“The Wonder Beers” birthday brew is Littles Creatures’ flagship Pale Ale reimagined and celebrates Little Creatures’ 18-year history, which began as a group of beer-loving Australian lads with an idea to make a great Pale Ale. It was brought to life in 2000 when the Little Creatures Brewery, one of Australia’s first craft breweries, was born on the water’s edge in Fremantle.

Russell Gosling, Head Brewer at Little Creatures Fremantle, said the creation of “The Wonder Beers” started with the Littles Creatures team asking themselves what a Pale Ale would look like if the brewery had started in 2018.

“Our first thought was, who knows? But then we started to think more about some of the current trends we are seeing in brewing. We used two malts – our standard Pale Malt and Redback Malt, a new one from New Zealand – as well as a new varietal of New Zealand hops, Hort 4337,” said Gosling.

“Given the current trend of juicy Pale Ales in the US, we also added Burlington Ale, a yeast which is taking over the craft beer scene right now. We figured our birthday was a great opportunity to give it a go.”

“The end result retained many of the hallmarks that make our current Pale Ale great, so we called it ‘The Wonder Beers’ as a reference to the much loved 80s show ‘The Wonder Years’ and the fact that there’s no other way to describe 18 years of Little Creatures than totally wonderful.”

“The Wonder Beers will be available on tap at Little Creatures Fremantle and Geelong.

Both breweries will also mark the brand’s anniversary with a jam-packed calendar of events:

A NOTE FROM THE LITTLE CREATURES TEAM

Little Creatures is turning 18 this November, and while the saying “time flies when you’re having fun” is a cliché, it’s also profoundly true. We’ve had a blast and we’re keen on celebrating our ‘coming of age’ with all our friends, old and new.

It was about 20 years ago that a group of beer-loving Australian lads were sitting around a table praising the distinctive aroma and delicious flavour of an American Pale Ale they had recently discovered.

They knew they had to share it with their fellow beer lovers back in Western Australia, so they set about starting up their own brewery, naming it “Little Creatures Brewing”, in honour of the yeast that brings beer to life and is an integral part of any quality Pale Ale.

With a dual focus on quality and community, they purchased a large shed that had been operating as a crocodile tourist park in Fremantle. It was the perfect size for them to custom design one of Australia’s first craft breweries.

With an enviable harbour side location and ample space to allow beer lovers to congregate around the large brewing tanks, it provided a distinctive German beer hall experience that could bring beer lovers together in a distinctly Australian setting.

From the first day our Pale Ale was poured from the Fremantle taps in November 2000, right through to the delicious family of craft beers that flow from our taps today, we’re as keen as ever to bring beer and cheer into the lives of the many communities we now find ourselves in. We don’t have the words to articulate our gratitude for all who have supported and continue to support us.

However, we do have world-class brewers who can conjure up a smashing birthday beer to say ‘cheers’, and a top-notch hospitality crew who know how to throw a cracking party.
