Capital Brewing Co and Brodburger rally behind Machan Berra and Homegrown Me following fire.

Following the tragic news of the kitchen fire involving Canberra foodies Machan Berra at Homegrown Me pop-up kitchen on Wednesday night, Capital Brewing Co and Brodburger are rallying support for the community groups.

Machan Berra were due to showcase their Sri Lankan barbequed delicacies at tomorrow’s Grilled & Chilled Festival at Capital Brewing Co.

The festival is a celebration of independent craft beer, independent live music, and barbequed delicacies from around the world.

“We were absolutely devastated to hear the news” said Capital’s Community Engagement Manager Dan Watters.

“We’ve become good friends with the boys from Machan Berra since their debut event here at Capital’s Christmas Night markets last year and are keen to help them get back on their feet any way we can. We’d love nothing more than to see them continue to passionately share their culture and cuisine with our community.”

Capital will be passing round the “Crowler” at Saturday’s event and even though they’re a cashless venue are asking the public to bring heaps of cash!

In addition Sascha and Joelle Brodbeck, owners of Capital’s permanent food truck Brodburger, and Mr Watters (also former Director of Corinbank Music and Arts Festival) have offered to donate commercial kitchen appliances from Brodburger and Corinbank to Homegrown Me to see the valuable work of the community kitchen continue.

“Homegrown Me provides an invaluable service to community groups and emerging small businesses such as Machan Berra,” said Mr Watters.

“We’re urging fellow food businesses around Canberra with surplus quality commercial kitchen appliances to get on board and show just what our community is made of.”
