Entries for the 2019 Australian International Beer Awards now open

The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) is calling brewers and breweries from all over the world – large scale or boutique – to enter the 2019 Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA), the world’s largest annual beer competition.

Conducted by the RASV, the AIBA judging will take place for its 27th year over three big days at Melbourne Showgrounds, from Wednesday 8 to Friday 10 May in the lead up to the 2019Good Beer Week.

“The Australian International Beer Awards celebrates and promotes beer and brewing excellence in Australia and around the world. Each year, the event offers exhibitors an incredible opportunity to benchmark their beer against industry standards, standing among some of the most talented brewers in the world,” said Paul Guerra, CEO, The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria.

The AIBA judging panel consists of over 65 local and international beer experts, selected for their knowledge, experience and field of expertise, who judge entrants against specific criteria including appearance, aroma, flavour and body, technical quality and style.

“The RASV is dedicated to continually assessing and evolving the categories within the AIBA to reflect industry trends, production techniques and consumer interest, which is why this year, we are introducing the Best Fruit Beer and Best Wood or Barrel Aged Beer trophies, reflecting the evolving beverage landscape.”

“In 2018, the AIBA attracted more than 2,100 entries from 359 breweries across Australia and internationally and we’re confident these numbers will remain strong in 2019 as more and more talented players enter the market,” said Mr Guerra.
Conducted by the RASV, the AIBA will award over 30 trophies including 24 major trophies across various beer types, and 10 overall champion trophies including; Champion Australian Beer, Champion International Beer, Champion Large, Medium and Small Breweries in both Australia and internationally and Champion Gypsy Brewer.

All trophies are set to be awarded at the 2019 AIBA Presentation Dinner in Melbourne on Thursday 16 May as part of Good Beer Week. Last year’s Champions of Australian Large, Medium and Small Breweries – Mountain Goat Beer, Green Beacon Brewing Co and Black Hops Brewing, along with the Champion Australian Gypsy Brewer, Philter Brewing have joined forces to create the highly-anticipated 2019 Collaboration Brew, which is set to be unveiled at the AIBA Presentation Dinner.

AIBA is open for entry until Friday 22 March – for all details on how to enter head here.
