A Pirate’s Life 4 years and a new brewery

After a year of construction, we are excited to announce the official launch of the Port Adelaide Brewery on our Fourth Birthday.

Introducing our new brewery at Port Adelaide Cnr of Baker Street & Barlow Street, Port Adelaide SA 5015.

Over the last few years there has been increased interest in re-developing Port Adelaide. We’re pumped because, right there with us, there’s a community of forward-thinking free-spirited entrepreneurs in art, design, food, drinks, tourism, retail, housing development, hospitality, history and preservation. And it’s kind of fitting we’ve found our waterside home, brilliantly steeped in maritime stories. It feels good!

“We’ve been working on Pirate Life at the Port for more than twelve months and we’ve come so far,” says Co-Founder Michael Cameron.

“And while our original Hindmarsh brewery, bar and shop will remain open for business, the Port brewery represents a vital injection of culture at an exciting time befitting the area’s resurgence.”

John Phinney CEO says, “South Australian beer lovers have shown us a great deal of respect and support. On top of that, we’ve had incredible backing from the state government, our colleagues at Carlton & United Breweries, and our new neighbours at the Port Adelaide Council, and we’re very appreciative of that. Now it’s time for us to share the love … and we encourage everyone to drop in and stay for a while.”

“Our new brewhouse in the expansive, proud old Dalgety woolstores really is a sight to behold. From the brewery to the bar, the food offerings and our ongoing events schedule, we reckon you’ll love being there as much as we do. We’re just four years old but we’ve got a lot to celebrate. Come join us for our Birthday & Brewery Launch!” – Michael Cameron, Co-Founder.

Time flies when you’re trying to brew it as fast as you can sell it … Yep, it’s been a whole four years since we said goodbye to life on Australia’s mighty west coast and drove across the Nullarbor to make our new home on Adelaide’s busiest street, South Rd, Hindmarsh. Now we’re onto the next big thing for Pirate Life: celebrating our birthday in our new spiritual home in Port Adelaide.

So now we’re counting down the days to our biggest party yet. In the past three birthdays, we’ve been lucky enough to close city streets for sand-filled, music-pumped beach bashes, skate ramp sessions and surprise beer launches for the Pirate Life faithful. Now, on March 9, we’re opening our biggest, best birthday present to self – our massive new brewery at Port Adelaide.

Like a madman building a robot in the basement, pretty much the whole world has been watching as we’ve positioned, painted, programmed and personalised our epic digs in the 1938 Dalgety Woolstores in north-west Adelaide’s heritage maritime precinct. We couldn’t have stumbled across a better new home, and the support of building owner Quality Wool and the broader community has been incredible. It’s going to be our most rewarding birthday yet. And as the locals have discovered, the Port is where pirates do their best work.

Round up your mates for an epic day of beer, food & tunes. This event is FREE and FAMILY FRIENDLY.

  • Date: Saturday 9 March 2pm – 10pm
  • Where: Cnr of Baker Street & Barlow Street, Port Adelaide SA 5015

We will be unveiling our new tap house with a 22 yard Main Bar (That’s the size of a cricket pitch). Like all of our birthdays, we have put together a line of eight new limited release birthday beers. Some old faves and some delicious new creations will be pouring on the 9th or March.

The new brewery will house a bar with 24 taps, tasting room, Pirate Life shop, and a new outpost from our mates at Robbie’s Chop Shop which will be open to all comers!

Visitors will be able to enjoy a traditional barbershop service with their favourite brew. Featuring a full complement of barbers and services the store will also stock a wide range of RCS merchandise and grooming products.

“Our customers love Pirate Life and we have guys coming all the way to Unley from the northwestern suburbs for a cut, it just made sense. The two brands share a common lineage of not only being local institutions but also loving what we do and having fun doing it!” says Robbie’s Chop Shop Founder Robbie Ferrante.
