BentSpoke bucks trend and keeps penalty rates intact

Braddon’s BentSpoke Brewing Co is keeping existing penalty rates for their staff despite the Fair Work Commission’s decision to cut Sunday penalty rates for workers under the hospitality award.

“We are pleased to announce that there will be no penalty rate cuts for our employees,” said co-owner and head brewer Richard Watkins.

“Whilst this will have a financial impact, we know that our staff are an integral part of BentSpoke’s success, and we value the contribution that each employee makes to the business.”

Customers at the Braddon brewpub will notice that BentSpoke does not charge a Sunday or public holiday surcharge either.

“While some establishments use surcharges to make up the cost of penalty rates on Sundays, here at BentSpoke we believe that it should not cost more to have a beer with mates on the weekend.” says Richard Watkins.
