Braden Beggs - Project Brewing

In this episode Pete catches up with Braden Beggs at Project Brewing. A keen homebrewer with a mechanical and process engineering background, Braden is living two dreams by building and running a small brewbar in a suburban industrial estate while holding down a ‘real’ job to keep his family fed. But, as you will learn, this is no part-time hobby but a well-planned work-life-passion balance involving good time management, plenty of long hard hours and presumably a good deal of patience from the mother of his five kids.

We spoke in the weeks before Melbourne returned to Stage 3 Covid Restrictions and chatted about the pressures of adjusting to the reduced operating conditions and the opportunities that those same restrictions presented. We also look at Project Brewing’s core range and between us delight at the fact that two favourites among loyal regulars are the Vienna Lager and, wait for it – the Hefeweizen. Our discussion highlights how our beer preference is framed by our individual beer experience and possibly influenced by our beer prejudices. It makes us realise that while someone is discovering a Hazy someone else is discovering a Witbier.

There’s plenty in this chat to interest homebrewers, start-ups and those with breweries in planning so grab a Hef, pull up a barstool and enjoy the conversation.
