The women at BentSpoke Brewing Co have come together along with a group of women within the brewing, distillery, and wine industries across many professions to brew a new beer featuring the 4th Annual Pink Boots hops Blend.

Brewed onsite at BentSpoke’s Braddon brewpub, the beer aims to celebrate and highlight the contribution of women in the industries in which they operate.

While beer may be a male-dominated industry today, history tells us that beer used to be made almost entirely by women. Alewives as they were known, were responsible for making large volumes of beer for their families, selling their surplus at the door.

“This beer celebrates the lesser-known contributions of women,” said Tracy Margrain, co-owner, and brewer. “With that in mind, we’ve decided to name the beer Marion, after Marion Mahony Griffin, the architect who helped shape Canberra, but is often forgotten in the city’s narrative.”

Tracy herself is no stranger to brewing. Having brewed for over 3 years, she leads the team that keeps the beer at the brewpub flowing – no easy feat!

The beer is an as yet unrevealed style and features The Pink Boots Society’s Hop Blend. The Pink Boots Society was created to assist, inspire, and encourage female beer industry professionals. With the money from the sale of the beer going towards funding scholarships for Pink Books members. Pink Boots Society is a not-for-profit organisation for women and non-binary people in the fermentation industry.

Marion will be exclusively on tap at the BrewPub in Braddon on Thursday the 5th of August. We will be launching the beer with an event at the BrewPub with a talk and a taste.
